This will be my second translation overall, and the first time one of my stories has been invited to a reprint anthology in any language. I’m very pleased, especially because the anthology has an interesting background and a history of very high-powered authors in its pages.

I’m so happy to see my stories travel around the world!
http://faerye.net/post/on-a-bookshelfOn a bookshelf near you2010-06-17T15:24:39+00:002010-06-17T22:54:11+00:00

I took this picture last week — Is Anybody Out There?, edited by Nick Gevers and Marty Halpern on the shelves at Powell’s City of Books (Sci-Fi/Fantasy section, Anthology bookshelves). Of course, when I first saw it there the previous week, there were two copies!

Updated to add: I don’t plan to be this spammy every time I get something in an anthology. This is just the first time there is a book with my name anywhere on it (back cover, POW!) and I will simmer down shortly. When I get a book of my very entire own published, however, this level of bloggery will seem by contrast quite mild.
http://faerye.net/post/fermi-paradox-anthology-on-shelvesFermi Paradox anthology on shelves2010-06-03T23:32:00+00:002010-06-03T23:33:02+00:00

The stories all aim to explore, explain or otherwise elaborate upon the Fermi Paradox — the startling fact that despite many estimates placing the likelihood of intelligent extraterrestrial life quite high, we haven’t run across any neighbors. Or have we?

One of the editors, Marty Halpern, is posting several of the stories serially on his blog under the tag “free fiction”. Check it out, and should you wish to get a copy, here is my Powell’s Partner link!
http://faerye.net/post/technically-available-at-powellscomTechnically available at Powells.com2010-02-27T23:24:41+00:002010-02-27T23:25:52+00:00
I’m absurdly tickled to discover that you can now pre-order Is Anybody Out There? from Powells.com. This is the anthology edited by Marty Halpern and Nick Gevers I mentioned in November, in which a story I co-wrote with Leslie What shall appear. “Rare Earth” is my first story in an anthology, my first work in a permanent book of any sort. Having it available from Powell’s, even just for pre-order, feels like an arrival.

Words I wrote…in a book! When it comes out in June, you know I’ll haunt the shelves at Powell’s downtown and take photos of it. Because that is how ridiculous I can be.
http://faerye.net/post/collaborative-story-with-leslie-what-sold-to-fermi-paradox-anthoCollaborative story with Leslie What sold to Fermi Paradox Anthology2009-11-30T19:22:31+00:002009-12-25T01:25:44+00:00
When Leslie What came up to Portland to read in the CALYX reading a few months back, she proposed that we collaborate on a story for the themed anthology Is Anybody Out There?, edited by Nick Gevers and Marty Halpern. I’d never co-written a story or written a story to fit a theme, but I am adventurous (when adventure doesn’t involve danger or leaving my house) so I said yes.

We just found out our story was accepted and will be published in the anthology! Is Anybody Out There? is due out in June, 2010 from Daw Books. Here are the details about the theme and the creation of the anthology from Marty Halpern.

Our story is called “Rare Earth” and one early reader calls it “PortlandTASTIC.” I’m really proud of our work, and excited to see it in bookstores next summer!

And yes, there was a fortune cookie for this too, but my camera is out of batteries.
