That’s why my Dad says you should get two kittens at once—he says they never grow up completely, that way.

But two Rexes might be a bit much for the pocketbook.

Actually, if you had a kitten, you WOULD never be unhappy again. Scientifically proven. But, after a while… it grows into an adult cat. And you may still like your cat. But the chemical that the brain releases when it sees a cute cuddly wuddly baby kitten, that feline-triggered opiate that causes your worries to melt away – yeah, that disappears. And then you need another one. To stop the cravings. You can quit anytime, right? But it’s even harder if you can only have Devon Rexes. It’s like being an alcoholic who will only drink $70-a-bottle champagne.

Then a couple months go by and the Humane Society won’t return your calls anymore and you’re standing on a street corner, after pawning your furniture for more kittens. You’re the lowest of the low – a kitten junkie.

Well, I read someone’s story on devonrex.com and she got her show kitten for $500, so I bet pet-grades are less than that.

Yeah, it looks like breeder generally sell kittens (with shots and sometimes pre-altered) at between $300 and $1000. And they usually operate at a loss (they don’t try to make money, they try to make perfect show cats).

So once we have a house, and we’ve settled in and unpacked and such, then we can think about a kitten.

We’d have to have someone to drive us home, though, as when we actually do more than a quick pet-and-wash-hands, like hold Qubit in our laps, we make with the sneezies and the blinding eye-runs.

We are grossly unlikely to get a kitten until after we have a house, anyways. And we may have to save up, you have to get Devon Rexes from breeders, which I think can cost a bit.

Aww. You know, you and Matt are always welcome to pop some allergy pills and come play with my kitten. She has endless reserves of Kitten Power that I can’t even begin to tap on my own.

Ooh, ooh, and if you get a Devon Rex then we can have kitten parties and kitten playdates where we let the kittens play with each other for maximum cuteness!

That’s not completely untrue. A kitten would make you feel much better, turn the slings and blunt the arrows of outrageous fortune, and generally serve to remind you that there are good things in life. And, like children, they make excellent conversation pieces, but their shots are cheaper and they tend to cause less substantial lifestyle changes.
